Message from University Police Regarding Anticipated Winter Weather

Please be advised that a cold weather system is expected to impact south Mississippi on Friday, Jan. 6, and could bring a wintery mix of precipitation to University of Southern Mississippi locations beginning in the afternoon.
The Pine Belt area, including the Hattiesburg campus, will be under a Winter Weather Advisory from 6 a.m. on Friday to midnight. Showers are likely before noon, but could change from rain to a wintery mix later in the day. Precipitation is forecast to end sometime between 9 p.m. and midnight on Friday night. Freezing temperatures are expected Friday evening through Saturday morning, and again on Saturday evening through Sunday morning.

The University’s locations along the Gulf Coast could also be affected by freezing temperatures and the chance of wintery precipitation late Friday afternoon and into Saturday.

Southern Miss students and employees are encouraged to use caution when traveling on or near USM campuses, as well as to monitor local media outlets for updates. Should conditions warrant a change to the University’s regularly scheduled operations at any point on Friday, an Eagle Alert will be issued.
