12.7.17, 1:39 p.m. - Winter Weather Advisory May Affect 9 a.m. Commencement Ceremony, Hattiesburg Operations on Friday

Operations on the Hattiesburg campus will begin at 9 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 8, due to winter weather conditions in the Pine Belt. The start of the Commencement ceremony originally scheduled for 9 a.m. is postponed until 10:30 a.m. The University’s operations on the Gulf Coast will proceed as normally scheduled.

The University requests that participants and visitors for the 3 p.m. Commencement ceremony arrive no earlier than 1:30 p.m. to allow for traffic from the first ceremony to fully vacate the area around Reed Green Coliseum.

Mississippi Department of Transportation recommends the following when traveling in winter weather conditions:

- Slow down. Should winter weather conditions become present, “black ice” can form.

- Allow more space between your vehicle and the one in front of you.

- Brake early and gently to avoid skidding, and never slam on the brakes.

- Avoid distractions, such as talking or texting on a cell phone.

- Stay alert.
