Gulf Coast In-Person Operations to Resume on Tuesday

The University’s previously scheduled in-person operations on the Gulf Coast, including the Gulf Park Campus in Long Beach, the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory in Ocean Springs, the Marine Research Center in Gulfport, and at Stennis Space Center in Hancock County, will resume on Tuesday, August 25, as the threat of severe weather related to Tropical Storm Marco has passed.

All online course delivery, remote work, and previously scheduled Hattiesburg campus in-person operations, are continuing as scheduled.

University officials are also continuing to monitor Tropical Storm Laura, currently located near Cuba and predicted to strengthen and make landfall near the Texas/Louisiana border on Wednesday or Thursday. USM students, faculty, and staff are advised to follow official sources of weather information, including the National Weather Service.

Should a USM campus or location be forced to close as a result of Tropical Storm Laura, USM will activate the Eagle Alert emergency communication system. All emergency notifications are also posted to
