Message from University Police: Potential Severe Weather System Early Next Week

University of Southern Mississippi students, faculty, and staff should monitor weather reports over the weekend, as the National Weather Service in Jackson (NWS) has placed the Hattiesburg area under a Limited Threat for significant ice accumulation beginning late Monday and into the day on Tuesday. Currently, the NWS indicates that freezing rain and sleet accumulation are possible, while light icing of bridges and overpasses could also occur. University officials are continuing to monitor the forecast in conjunction with local emergency management officials.

Students, faculty, and staff should check now to make sure your contact information is current in the University’s Eagle Alert system: https://www.usm.edu/police/eagle-alert.php. Should conditions warrant a change to the University’s regularly scheduled operations at any point on Monday evening or on Tuesday, an Eagle Alert will be issued.
