University of Southern Mississippi operations at all locations in Hattiesburg and on the Gulf Coast will be closed on Monday, February 15, in anticipation of severe winter weather. In-person classes will be held online, and a small number of essential employees will be contacted by their supervisors to report for on-site work.
Deans and directors are asked to allow for flexibility for faculty and students who are unable to participate in online classes on Monday.
The National Weather Service in Jackson (NWS) has placed the Hattiesburg area under an Elevated Threat for a Significant Winter Storm, and for Record-Breaking Cold. Single-digit wind chill is expected, while freezing rain and sleet accumulation are possible. Icing of bridges and overpasses is also likely.
The Fresh Food Company on the Hattiesburg campus will remain open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday.
Should Tuesday operations also be impacted, the Eagle Alert emergency communication system will again be activated.
